The Jake Crowley Adventures are a collaboration between David Wood and Australian author Alan Baxter. The series starts with Blood Codex, in which Crowley rescues a woman named Rose Black from attackers on the streets of London. Her eagle-shaped birthmark connects her to an ancient society called the Sons of Ragnar, and the two of them are pulled into a deadly chase that runs from London’s underground to the heart of Christendom.
Crowley is a history teacher and ex-SAS operative, which gives him both the academic knowledge and combat skills the plots demand. Anubis Key, Revenant, and Sanctum continue the partnership between Crowley and Rose, each book introducing a new historical mystery and a new set of enemies. The books move fast. Baxter’s background in horror fiction adds a darker edge to the usual Wood adventure formula.
