Dan Walsh’s Jack Turner Suspense series follows a college professor who has a talent for stumbling into trouble. When Night Comes (2014) starts things off when Turner inherits a Victorian house and discovers it comes with some dark history. Remembering Dresden (2016) sends him to Germany to investigate a family connection to the Allied firebombing of Dresden in 1945.
Unintended Consequences (2017) and Perilous Treasure (2018) keep the formula going: historical mysteries, present-day danger, and Turner’s stubborn curiosity pushing him forward. Walsh uses Turner’s background as a historian to give the plots a research angle that sets them apart from more conventional thrillers. The books move at a good pace and work as standalone reads, though Turner’s personal life develops across the series.
