J.R. Rain’s short story collections gather his shorter fiction into themed volumes. From The Santa Call and Other Stories (2009) to Moon Shots (2020), the ten collections draw heavily from his Vampire for Hire universe while also including standalone paranormal tales.
Several of the collections reference Samantha Moon directly. Vampire Nights and Other Stories (2010), Vampire Dreams and Other Stories (2012), and Vampire Blues and Other Stories (2014) all feature stories set in the Vampire for Hire world. Halloween Moon and Other Stories (2012) carries the moon motif into seasonal territory. Moon Tales (2020) and Moon Shots (2020) arrived together as companion volumes.
The non-vampire collections offer more variety. The Bleeder and Other Stories (2010) includes horror outside the vampire niche, and Dark Rain (2017) collects darker material. Moonlight & Monsters (2017) pulls from both fantasy and horror. For readers already invested in Rain’s series fiction, these collections fill in gaps and expand the world. For newcomers, they offer a low-commitment way to sample his writing.
