Irvine Welsh’s four short story collections span from 1994 to 2009. The Acid House (1994), his first collection, mixes gritty Edinburgh realism with bizarre, surreal scenarios. Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance (1996) collects three longer novellas about love and drugs.
If You Liked School, You’ll Love Work (2007) contains stories about work and its discontents. Reheated Cabbage (2009) gathers previously unpublished short fiction from across Welsh’s career. All four collections feature his trademark Scots dialect, dark humor, and characters from Edinburgh’s working class.
