The Irish Angel trilogy tells the story of four sisters who came to New Orleans from Ireland in the 1870s. When their parents contract yellow fever and die, the girls are torn apart. Ten-year-old Lovie is sold to a brothel, eight-year-old Megan is taken in by a street criminal, and the two youngest are left at an orphanage.
Heart of Stone (2010) follows Lovie, who escapes New Orleans, changes her name to Laura Foster, and builds a respectable life in Glory, Texas. Heart of Lies (2011) is Megan’s story. Renamed Maddie, she was raised among thieves and has forgotten her past. Heart of Glass (2012) rounds out the trilogy. The series combines romance with Landis’s interest in the hardships faced by Irish immigrants in 19th-century America.
