The Inspector Henri Lefort series by Mark Pryor is set in Paris during the German occupation in World War II. Henri Lefort is a French police inspector who continues to solve murders even as the city operates under Nazi control. Die Around Sundown (2022) opens the series with a killing at the Louvre, and Lefort must investigate while working within the constraints imposed by the occupiers.
The Dark Edge of Night (2023) and A Blood Red Morning (2024) continue the series, with each book presenting a new case against the backdrop of wartime Paris. The setting adds layers of complexity to the mysteries: witnesses have reasons to lie beyond the usual, suspects may be protected by the occupying forces, and Lefort himself must decide how far he can bend without breaking. Pryor brings the same Paris atmosphere from his Hugo Marston books to a much darker historical period.
