Innocents at War follows characters who enter conflict with little understanding of what they are facing. The eight books trace the arc from naive enthusiasm in The Gathering Clouds through the escalation of When Empires Collide and the disillusioning experiences of Dark Days Of Summer and A Wretched Victory.
The series was mostly published in 2016-2017, with The Last Campaign arriving much later in 2024 to conclude the story. The “innocents” of the title drives the series’ central theme: the gap between expectations and the reality of war.
