The Inheritance of Magic series is Benedict Jacka’s follow-up to his million-copy-selling Alex Verus novels. Set in modern London, the series introduces a magic system called drucraft, which is controlled by aristocratic families and wealthy corporations. Stephen Oakwood is the series protagonist. He has real talent for drucraft, but he works a minimum-wage job and has no connections to the magical establishment. Turning potential into actual power requires money, training, and opportunity, none of which Stephen has. The series explores how he navigates a system designed to keep people like him out, mixing urban fantasy action with questions about wealth, class, and inherited privilege. Jacka has said he plans to continue the series at a pace of one book per year.
