The Infected trilogy is Scott Sigler’s breakthrough horror series. Infected (2008) follows a man who discovers alien parasites growing inside his body and his increasingly violent attempts to cut them out. Contagious (2008) expands the scope as the infection spreads, and Pandemic (2014) brings the crisis to a global scale.
Sigler originally released Infected as a free podcast novel before Crown Publishing picked it up for print. The body horror is graphic and specific, with detailed scenes of the protagonist Perry Dawsey trying to remove the parasites himself. The book earned comparisons to Michael Crichton for its blend of science fiction and biological threat.
There was a six-year gap between Contagious and Pandemic, but the final book rewards the wait by escalating the threat far beyond where the first two books went. The trilogy reads best in order since the stakes build across all three novels. Sigler has said that the Infected universe connects to his broader body of work, including the GFL series.
