Sydney journalist India Kane travels to the remote Australian outback town of Cooinda to visit her best friend Lauren, only to find Lauren missing and herself arrested for a double murder she did not commit. That is the setup for Blood Junction, the award-winning debut that launched C.J. Carver’s career under her real name, Caroline Carver.
Blood Junction won the CWA Debut Dagger and was shortlisted for the Barry Award for Best Crime Fiction Novel. Publishers Weekly selected it as one of the best mystery books of the year. The novel draws on Carver’s decade living in Australia, and the outback setting gives the story a sense of isolation that raises the stakes.
Black Tide sends India aboard a Greenpeace ship pursuing a whaling fleet. When a container ship kills eight crew members in a collision, India sets out to find the vessel’s owner, a search that leads her back to the Australian outback and a community suffering from a mysterious illness. In Dead Heat, the focus shifts to Georgia Parish returning to tropical Queensland for her father’s funeral, with India appearing in a supporting role as the plot involves illegal immigration and Chinese gangsters.
