The Indexing series introduces a world where fairy tales are living forces that try to impose their narratives on real people. ATI Management Bureau agents work to identify and contain these “narrative incursions” before they can fully manifest. The protagonist, Henry Marchen, is herself an activated Snow White who must resist her story’s pull while protecting others.
Indexing (2013) established the concept, and Reflections (2016) continued exploring its implications. The series combines McGuire’s fairy tale interests with procedural thriller elements, creating something that reads like a supernatural X-Files where the threats are narrative patterns rather than aliens.
