The I Heart series follows Angela Clark, a British magazine editor who moves to New York City on impulse after her life in London falls apart. I Heart New York (2009) kicks things off with Angela arriving in the city with little more than a suitcase and a broken heart, and the books follow her through Hollywood, Paris, Vegas, London, and beyond as she builds a new career and falls in love.
Each book takes Angela to a new city or situation, but the series has a strong through-line built around her friendships, her romance with musician Alex Reid, and her career in magazine journalism and blogging. The tone is light and funny, with plenty of fashion references and pop culture jokes, but the series also follows Angela through real struggles with identity, ambition, and figuring out what she actually wants from life. The companion novellas Jenny Lopez Has a Bad Week and Jenny Lopez Saves Christmas feature Angela’s best friend Jenny and fit between the main novels.
