The Hunter Rayne Highway Mystery series by R.E. Donald runs six books, starting with Slow Curve on the Coquihalla (2011). Hunter Rayne is a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police detective who traded homicide investigations for an 18-wheeler. The job was supposed to be simpler. It wasn’t.
Each book is named after a highway or geographic feature and set along real routes through western Canada. The mysteries range from smuggling rings to cold cases in Alaska. Donald’s trucking background shows in the details: the settings, the culture, and the rhythms of long-distance hauling are all drawn from firsthand experience.
