The Huggly series flips the “monster under the bed” idea on its head. Instead of something scary, Huggly is a lovable, round green creature who is more curious than frightening. He lives under a child’s bed with his monster buddies Booter and Grubble, and together they sneak around the house after dark.
Each book puts Huggly in an everyday situation, like taking a bath, going to school, or celebrating holidays, but seen from a monster’s confused perspective. The series ran from 1998 to 2003 with 14 books, and its gentle humor makes it a good fit for younger kids who might be nervous about what’s lurking under their own beds.
