Kristen Painter’s House of Comarré is a six-book urban fantasy series published between 2011 and 2013. The series is set in a world where vampires are part of society and the Comarré are specially bred humans who serve as blood donors to powerful vampires. Blood Rights introduces Chrysabelle, a Comarré who escapes her vampire patron and sets off a chain of events that draws in multiple supernatural factions.
The series progresses through Flesh and Blood, Bad Blood, Out for Blood, and Last Blood, with the prequel novella Forbidden Blood providing backstory. Painter builds a detailed world with its own rules about vampire hierarchy, blood magic, and the uneasy relationship between humans and the undead. The House of Comarré books were among Painter’s first published novels and helped establish her reputation in urban fantasy before she moved into the lighter Nocturne Falls series.
