In the Hollywood Nobody series, Lisa Samson introduces Scotty Dawn, a sharp and observant fifteen-year-old who lives in an old Travco RV and travels from movie set to movie set with her mother, a food stylist for film productions. Scotty’s voice is funny and genuine, and the books follow her as she deals with the weirdness of Hollywood, the mystery of her own family history, and the ordinary struggles of being a teenager.
Published across 2007 and 2008, the four books in this YA series earned Samson a Christy Award and showed she could write convincingly for younger audiences. The Hollywood setting gives the stories a distinctive flavor, but at their core these are books about identity, belonging, and figuring out who you are when your life does not look like anyone else’s.
