The Henry Kimball / Lily Kintner series by Peter Swanson started with The Kind Worth Killing in 2015 and continued with The Kind Worth Saving (2023) and A Talent for Murder (2024). The first book introduces Lily Kintner, a woman with a complicated history involving violence, and the morally gray situations she keeps finding herself in. The sequels bring in Henry Kimball, a private investigator whose cases connect to Lily’s world.
The series is darker than most thrillers, with characters who operate in moral territory that most people would find uncomfortable. Swanson does not soften his protagonists or make their choices easy to justify. The three books work as a connected series, but The Kind Worth Killing stands particularly well on its own as a self-contained thriller with one of the most memorable premises in recent crime fiction.
