The Hellhole Trilogy is an original science fiction series by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, separate from their Dune work. The trilogy consists of Hellhole (2011), Hellhole Awakening (2013), and Hellhole Inferno (2014). The books follow colonists on a devastated planet who must build a new civilization while dealing with both the planet’s harsh conditions and political threats from the central government.
The series gave Herbert and Anderson a chance to build their own universe from scratch rather than working within the established Dune framework. The themes of colonization, survival, and political independence echo some of the ideas in their Dune novels, but the setting and characters are entirely original.
