Helena Coggan’s standalone novels move beyond the YA dystopian setting of her debut War of Angels duology into darker, more layered fantasy worlds. Both books feature young protagonists trapped in oppressive systems, but each creates its own distinct setting and mythology.
The Orphanage of Gods (2019) takes place in a world where gods have been overthrown by humanity. Their surviving children are locked away in a remote orphanage, and the story follows a group of them as they attempt to escape and find safety. The Witchling’s Girl (2021) is set in a society where the dead hold power over the living, centering on a girl apprenticed to her village’s healer who must navigate dangerous obligations to both the living and the undead.
These books can be read in any order since they share no characters or plot connections.
