Heather Marshall’s three standalone novels are all historical fiction centered on women caught up in larger historical events. Looking For Jane (2022), her debut, traces the stories of three women connected to the maternity homes in Canada where young, unmarried mothers were pressured to surrender their children. The book spans several decades and became a Canadian bestseller.
The Secret History of Audrey James (2024) moves to World War II, following a young woman who hides a Jewish friend in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam and the consequences that ripple forward through the years. Liberty Street (2026) is her newest release. Each novel stands alone, and readers can pick up any of the three without needing background from the others. Marshall’s strength is in bringing buried or forgotten histories to life through personal, character-driven stories.
