The Headline Hero series follows Colin Crampton, a resourceful crime reporter working for the Brighton Evening Chronicle during the swinging sixties. Each book puts Crampton at the scene of a murder, and he uses his journalist instincts and network of contacts to piece together what happened before the police can close the case.
Headline Murder (2015) introduces Crampton and his world, and subsequent entries like Stop Press Murder and Front Page Murder keep the formula fresh with new cases and settings. The later mysteries, including The Comedy Club Mystery and The Beach Party Mystery, expand the range of settings while keeping 1960s Brighton at the center. The series has a light, humorous tone that balances the murder plots with Crampton’s workplace rivalries and personal misadventures.
