Have Brides, Will Travel takes the familiar Johnstone duo of Bo Creel and Scratch Morton and gives them an unusual job: escorting a group of mail-order brides across the frontier. The women are headed to new husbands in the West, and somebody needs to keep them alive along the way. Bo and Scratch are not exactly qualified for the work, but they have the guns and the trail experience to get it done.
The series ran three books from 2019 to 2021, with each entry putting the group into new trouble. The Shotgun Wedding and Till Death carry the story forward with the same mix of humor, action, and road-trip camaraderie. The setup allows for a lighter tone than most Johnstone Westerns while still delivering plenty of gunfights and frontier danger. It is one of the more entertaining entries in the broader Johnstone catalog.
