The Hap and Leonard Collections bring together works from the long-running crime fiction series created by Joe R. Lansdale. Set in East Texas, the series follows Hap Collins and Leonard Pine, two best friends who stumble into dangerous situations with alarming regularity. Hap is a white, liberal Vietnam draft dodger; Leonard is a Black, conservative, gay Vietnam veteran. Their friendship is the engine of every story, and their bickering banter sits alongside real violence and genuine stakes.
Andrew Vachss contributed to this series through crossover stories and anthology pieces, and the collection includes his collaborative work alongside Lansdale’s core novels and short fiction. The books range from full-length novels like Mucho Mojo and Bad Chili to short story compilations like Blood and Lemonade and Hap and Leonard: Die Storys. Vachss’s involvement reflects a natural kinship between his work and Lansdale’s brand of rural crime fiction.
