Carin Gerhardsen’s Hammarby series follows a group of police detectives working out of a station in Stockholm’s Hammarby district. The series includes both the original Swedish editions and their translations into Finnish and English, with titles like Piparkakkutalo (the Finnish edition of The Gingerbread House) and Tuhkimotytot (the Finnish Cinderella Girl).
Each novel presents a new criminal investigation, but the detectives and their personal lives carry over from book to book. Gerhardsen draws on the everyday atmosphere of Stockholm neighborhoods to ground her crime stories, and the cases often touch on social issues beneath the surface of Swedish society. The series ran from 2008 through 2024, with The Saint being the most recent entry.
