The Gwen and Art Are Not in Love series is Lex Croucher’s YA duology, set in a Regency world with a modern comic voice. The first book, published in 2023, follows Gwen and Art – two people who are very clearly not in love, until they are. Croucher plays with the enemies-to-lovers structure familiar from the Regency genre while keeping things firmly in YA territory.
The series uses the “are not in love” framing as a running joke and a way to signal the kind of self-aware humor that runs through both books. The Regency setting provides the social constraints and misunderstandings that drive the plot, but Croucher doesn’t treat the period with the reverence of traditional historical romance.
“Bridget & Gabe Are Not Okay” (2026) extends the series with a new couple while bringing back characters from the first book. The duology format keeps the story contained – readers who enjoy the first book can continue, and the series won’t run on indefinitely.
