The Godstar Chronicles began with Timebound in 2012 as part of Estes’s early wave of self-published releases. The series deals with time travel and its consequences, following characters who can move between time periods and must deal with the ripple effects of doing so. The books blend science fiction mechanics with more fantastical elements, which gives the series a slightly different feel from Estes’s other work.
The Time’s Edge, Time’s Echo, Time’s Mirror, and Time’s Divide books form a closely related set within the larger series, following a single story thread through multiple time periods. Star-Born Mage, published much later in 2018, branches into more explicitly magical territory. The series also includes a lighter companion piece, Simon Says: Tips for the Intrepid Time Traveler, which functions as a humorous in-world guide.
The Godstar Chronicles is less well-known than Estes’s dystopian or epic fantasy work, and some of the earlier books are no longer widely available. Readers who enjoy time travel stories with adventure-focused plotting rather than hard science fiction will get the most out of the series.
