The God Gave Us series is Lisa T Bergren’s best-known work, with over 4.5 million copies sold since the first book appeared in 2000. The series uses a family of polar bears to introduce young children to spiritual concepts: God Gave Us You explains where babies come from (God picked you just for us), God Gave Us Christmas and God Gave Us Easter cover the major Christian holidays, and other titles explore love, heaven, sleep, family, gratitude, and prayer.
The books work as bedtime stories and seasonal gifts. The illustrations by Laura J. Bryant and David Hohn give the polar bear characters a gentle warmth that has kept the series in print for over two decades. God Gave Us the Bible (2019) and God Gave Us Prayer (2021) are among the more recent additions.
