Giles Blunt’s standalone novels span from 1989 to 2025 and show more range than his crime-focused Cardinal series. Cold Eye was his debut in 1989, years before the Cardinal books made his name. No Such Creature (2008) tells a cross-country crime story with a lighter touch than his procedurals, while Breaking Lorca (2009) moves to Spain during the Civil War.
The Hesitation Cut (2015) is a more literary work, and Bad Juliet (2025) is his most recent publication, arriving after a long gap. These five novels demonstrate that Blunt’s interests extend well beyond the Canadian crime fiction he is best known for.
