Stans By Me is a travel memoir by Ged Gillmore about his journey through the five Central Asian countries whose names end in “-stan”: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The book is full of the deadpan British humor that Gillmore brings to all his writing, alongside descriptions of the people, monuments, and customs he encountered along the way.
Gillmore studied languages and literature at the University of London before moving to Sydney in 2004. He splits his time between Australia, Ireland, and the UK. He is better known for his crime fiction, particularly the Bill Murdoch Mystery series starting with Headland (2017), which earned a Ned Kelly Award nomination for its sequel Class Act. Stans By Me represents his move into travel writing.
