The Fred, the Vampire Accountant series follows Frederick Frankford Fletcher, a meek accountant who was turned into a vampire and still wants nothing more than a quiet life of spreadsheets and tax returns. The first book, The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant (2014), introduces Fred as he is reluctantly pulled into the wider supernatural world.
Each book brings new threats and new allies as Fred’s circle of friends grows to include a werewolf bodyguard, a zombie hacker, and various other creatures. The series ran for nine main installments plus the final entry, All Accounts Settled (2025), which was completed after Drew Hayes’s death. The books are episodic enough that each works on its own, but the overarching story rewards reading in order.
