The Dark Elf Trilogy tells the origin story of Drizzt Do’Urden, beginning with his birth in the underground dark elf city of Menzoberranzan. Homeland (1990) shows how Drizzt grows up in a society built on cruelty and treachery, slowly realizing he does not belong there.
Exile follows Drizzt’s flight into the dangerous tunnels of the Underdark, where he survives alone for years. Sojourn completes his journey to the surface world, where he must earn the trust of surface dwellers who fear his dark elf heritage. The trilogy is the emotional foundation of the entire Legend of Drizzt saga and is where most readers choose to begin.
