The Forgotten Realms Anthologies are a series of 13 short story collections published between 1993 and 2010. Each volume gathers stories from multiple Forgotten Realms authors around a central theme, giving readers a sampling of different corners of the setting and different writing styles.
The series began with Realms of Valor (1993), which collected heroic adventure stories from authors across the Forgotten Realms line. Subsequent volumes explored villains (Realms of Infamy), magic users (Realms of Magic), underground civilizations (Realms of the Underdark), and other topics. The anthologies were a good entry point for readers unfamiliar with the setting, since each short story was self-contained. They also gave authors a chance to develop minor characters or explore corners of the Realms that did not warrant a full novel. The series ran for nearly two decades, with Realms of the Dead (2010) being the final volume.
