The Forever Twilight trilogy is Peter Crowther’s most ambitious long-form fiction project. It begins with Darkness Falling (2002), in which the world is suddenly engulfed by an unnatural darkness. The light does not return, and in its absence, something else arrives. Crowther sets up a classic end-of-the-world scenario but populates it with ordinary, recognizable people rather than action heroes, giving the horror a grounded, human quality.
Windows to the Soul (2009) and Death of Light (2012) continue the story as the surviving characters try to understand what has happened and whether the world can be restored. The trilogy took a decade to complete, with long gaps between volumes, but the result is a sustained piece of apocalyptic fiction that stays true to Crowther’s strengths as a writer of character and mood. Fans of quiet horror and slow-building dread will find the series rewarding.
