Flynn Berry’s novels are literary thrillers with a shared DNA: carefully controlled pacing, unreliable narrators, and a focus on what violence does to the people left behind. Under the Harrow (2016) follows a woman investigating her sister’s murder. A Double Life (2018) is about the daughter of a man suspected of killing his wife.
Northern Spy (2021) and Trust Her (2024) are the two that connect. Both follow sisters Tessa and Marian Daly against the backdrop of the conflict in Northern Ireland, with Trust Her picking up three years after Northern Spy ends. The first two books and the second two books work almost as separate pairs, linked by Berry’s style more than by shared characters.
