Fly By Night is Frances Hardinge’s debut series. The first book, published in 2005, introduces Mosca Mye, an orphaned girl with a love of words and a violent pet goose named Saracen. The story is set in a fictional world loosely inspired by 17th-century England, full of warring factions, printing press politics, and banned books. Fly by Night won the Branford Boase Award for best debut children’s novel.
The sequel, Twilight Robbery (also published as Fly Trap), appeared in 2010 and continues Mosca’s adventures. Flight from Hell (2014) is a short companion piece.
