Flavia Albia is the adopted daughter of Marcus Didius Falco and Helena Justina. Born in Londinium and adopted as a child, she grew up in Rome and followed her father into the informer business. Lindsey Davis launched her series with The Ides of April (2013), set during the reign of Emperor Domitian — a more dangerous political era than Falco’s time under Vespasian.
The Albia series runs to 15 books through There Will Be Bodies (2025). Like the Falco novels, the books combine mystery plots with Roman history and social detail, but Albia’s perspective as a woman and an adopted Briton gives the series a different texture. She navigates Roman society with the same sharp wit as her father, but faces constraints and complications he did not.
