The Fitz and the Fool trilogy brings Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings saga to its conclusion. Fool’s Assassin (2014) finds FitzChivalry Farseer living in quiet retirement at Withywoods when an unexpected event pulls him back into conflict. Fool’s Quest (2015) reunites him with the Fool, his oldest and most complicated friend, and the two set out on a mission that will define the end of both their stories.
Assassin’s Fate (2017) is the last book in the trilogy and the final novel in a saga that spans sixteen books across six sub-series. Hobb takes her time with this conclusion, spending pages on the emotional textures of Fitz’s relationships and the landscapes he has inhabited for decades of story time. For readers who have stayed with these characters since the 1990s, the ending carries real weight.
