Ferdinand von Schirach’s short story collections span more than a decade, with Crime published in 2009 and Guilt following in 2023. Both collections sit in the crime fiction genre, and the fourteen-year gap between them reflects how much of Schirach’s writing in that period went into standalone novels rather than short fiction.

Either collection can be read independently — there is no ongoing narrative thread connecting them — but Crime, as the earlier and better-known work, is the natural place to start for readers new to Schirach’s fiction. Guilt offers a more recent companion, returning to the short story format after his novels The Collini Case, The Girl Who Wasn’t There, and Punishment.
