The Fear Street Relaunch brought R.L. Stine’s classic teen horror series back to bookstores in 2014, published by St. Martin’s Griffin. Party Games kicked off the new run, and five more books followed through 2017. Like the original series, each book is set on Fear Street in Shadyside and features a new group of teenage characters facing deadly situations.
The Relaunch books are slightly longer than the originals and were published in hardcover, a first for the franchise. Stine updated the setting to reflect modern teen life (smartphones, social media), while keeping the same formula that made the originals popular: quick pacing, teen drama, and horror twists. Titles like Don’t Stay Up Late, Can You Keep a Secret?, and Give Me a K-I-L-L show that Stine hadn’t lost his knack for punchy, attention-grabbing book names.
These six books don’t connect to each other or to the original series in terms of plot, so readers can pick up any of them without prior Fear Street experience. The Relaunch helped introduce the franchise to readers who were too young for the 1990s originals, and its success was part of the broader wave of 90s nostalgia that also led to the 2021 Netflix Fear Street film trilogy.
