Fear Street: Fear Park is a three-book trilogy by R.L. Stine, all published in 1996. The series takes place at an amusement park built on Fear Street land in Shadyside. The park’s rides become death traps as the Fear Street curse turns what should be fun into horror. Each book’s title follows a “scream” theme: The First Scream, The Loudest Scream, and The Last Scream.
The trilogy tells one connected story and should be read in order. The premise of a cursed amusement park let Stine play with a different kind of horror than the usual school and suburban settings of the main series. Roller coasters, funhouses, and carnival rides become the backdrop for the supernatural threats, giving the books a distinct flavor within the Fear Street franchise.
Fear Park came out during 1996, when Stine was expanding the franchise in several directions at once. That same year saw the launch of Fear Street Sagas and several other Fear Street sub-series. The amusement park setting has a natural appeal for horror stories, and Stine used it well to create set pieces that played on common fears about rides malfunctioning or amusement parks hiding dark secrets.
