Chris d’Lacey’s Erth Dragons trilogy is set in a world where dragons are the dominant species. The Wearle (2015) follows a group of dragons sent to colonize the Earth. Dark Wyng (2016) and The New Age (2018) continue the story.
The trilogy is connected to d’Lacey’s earlier Last Dragon Chronicles, though Erth Dragons takes place in a different time period. The Wearle introduces a dragon colony called a “wearle” and the tension between the colonizers and the primitive humans already living on Erth. Dark Wyng raises the stakes as factions within the dragon community clash over how to deal with the human population.
The New Age wraps up the conflict after a two-year wait between publications. D’Lacey’s dragon fiction has a devoted young adult readership, and the Erth Dragons trilogy gives those readers a prequel-like look at the world that came before the events of his other dragon books.
