Published between 2012 and 2013 under the name L.L. Samson, the Enchanted Attic series is Lisa Samson’s foray into middle-grade fiction. The premise is simple and fun: twin twelve-year-olds Ophelia and Linus discover a hidden attic that once belonged to a mad scientist, and through it they encounter characters from classic literature who have somehow come to life. Each book puts the twins face to face with a different literary figure, from Quasimodo to Captain Ahab.
The series works as both an adventure story and a gateway to classic literature for younger readers. Samson uses the fantastical setup to give kids a reason to care about old books they might otherwise skip. It is a lighter, more playful side of her writing compared to her adult Christian fiction, but the storytelling instincts are the same.
