Emma Flint’s two novels are standalone works of literary crime fiction, each inspired by a real historical case. They can be read in any order as they share no characters or plot connections, though both explore similar themes of women facing suspicion and judgment.
Little Deaths (2017) reimagines the Alice Crimmins case, in which a young mother in 1960s Queens became the prime suspect in the disappearance of her two children — largely because neighbors and police disapproved of her lifestyle. Other Women (2023) is set in 1920s England and examines how a woman’s past is used to destroy her in the aftermath of a violent crime.
