The Embraced series marked Kerrelyn Sparks’ move from paranormal romance into fantasy romance. Published between 2017 and 2018, this trilogy is set on the world of Aerthlan, which is divided into five kingdoms, each linked to one of the moons in the sky. Women born when two moons are shining at once receive special magical abilities, and these “Embraced” women are both feared and sought after by those in power.
Each book follows a different Embraced heroine as she comes to terms with her gifts and gets drawn into both romance and political danger. The first book, How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, sets the stage with a princess who can communicate with ghosts, and the story builds from there. Sparks keeps the lighthearted, playful tone that fans know from her vampire books while building a new fantasy world with its own rules and conflicts. Readers who enjoy the trilogy can continue the story with the Embraced By Magic series, which picks up in the same world.
