The Ellie Foreman series is a set of amateur sleuth mysteries by Libby Fischer Hellmann, set in and around Chicago. Ellie is a video producer and single mother whose professional life has a habit of intersecting with murder. The series began with An Eye for Murder in 2002, in which Ellie discovers a connection between a World War II secret and a present-day killing.
Across the series, Ellie finds herself drawn into cases involving political corruption, organized crime, and personal betrayals. Hellmann uses Ellie’s filmmaking career as a natural vehicle for the character to encounter dangerous situations. The books blend suspense with a strong sense of Chicago’s neighborhoods and culture, and later entries in the series expand to include Ellie’s daughter Rachel, who appears in the connected High-Tech Crime Solvers books.
