Elizabeth Ironside published five standalone mystery novels over a sixteen-year period. A Very Private Enterprise (1984) is set in Delhi and won the John Creasey Award. After a long gap, she returned with Death in the Garden (1995) and The Accomplice (1996), both set in European locations with historical underpinnings.
The Art of Deception (1999) and A Good Death (2000) completed her published output. All five novels share a literary approach to the mystery genre, with careful attention to setting and an interest in how the past shapes present-day moral choices. Ironside’s books reward readers who want mysteries that work on more than one level.
