Edward L. Beach wrote nine non-fiction books about naval history and submarine warfare between 1952 and 2002. Submarine! (1952) was his first book, drawing directly on his wartime service. Around the World Submerged (1962) documented his historic command of the USS Triton’s circumnavigation.
His later non-fiction ranged widely across naval history: Wreck of the Memphis covered a 1916 disaster, The United States Navy: 200 Years provided a comprehensive history, and Scapegoats examined controversial naval incidents. Salt and Steel (1999) and From Annapolis to Scapa Flow (2002) were among his final works, capping five decades of writing about the sea.
