Eden Royce’s standalone novels span middle-grade fantasy and adult horror, all connected by their roots in Gullah-Geechee culture and Southern conjure magic. Root Magic (2021) is set in 1963 South Carolina and follows two siblings learning rootwork during the era of school integration. It won the Mythopeic Fantasy Award and earned a Nebula nomination.
Conjure Island (2023) takes a girl to a magical school run by her great-grandmother. The Creepening of Dogwood House (2024) won the Bram Stoker Award for middle-grade fiction. Psychopomp & Circumstance (2025) shifts to an adult audience with a Southern Gothic historical fantasy set during Reconstruction, and was named an NPR Books We Love pick.
