You Suck is David Wood’s entry into comedy-horror territory. Dunn Kelly’s father is the only Special Populations detective on the police force, responsible for checking rabies tags on werewolves, freeing zombies stuck in turnstiles, and sweeping up vampires who fall asleep while moon bathing. When teen pop star Delilah Idaho arrives in town to film a reality show called “You Suck,” in which vampires compete for the privilege of biting her, a murderer shows up on set. Dunn has to solve the mystery to save his father’s job.
The book is a far cry from Wood’s usual treasure-hunting adventures. It reads more like a teen comedy with supernatural window dressing. Reviewers have compared it to Christopher Moore’s vampire books and classic high school comedies. If you are looking for a quick, funny read that does not take itself seriously, this one fits the bill.
