The DS Nathan Cody series is David Jackson’s second series, set in Liverpool rather than the New York of his Callum Doyle books. The first book, A Tapping at my Door, was published in 2016 and introduced Cody as a detective with a troubled history that continues to affect his work.
The series has a psychological edge that runs through all five books. Jackson builds Cody as a character who is capable but damaged, and the crimes he investigates tend to match that darker register. The books are best read in order, as Cody’s personal storyline develops across the series alongside the individual cases.
Love Kills, published in 2024 after a five-year gap, brought the series back and picked up threads left open in Your Deepest Fear (2019).
